Yes, it’s amazing what you can—and should—be eating on a Keto diet. The old low-fat stuff is out, as are desserts sweetened with sugar. I’ll show you how to make killer Keto brownies without all the sugar-laden carbs!
By now, you’re getting to see a basic picture of what Keto foods to eat when starting a Keto diet. The first 12 items on my list are primarily baking ingredients. The remaining list items are dairy, meats, and vegetables.
Of course there’s MORE you can eat—and your desired list of Keto foods will come from the recipes that appeal to you from Suzanne’s book (or my free recipes on this site).
Are You In Shock?
Everything I’ve listed goes totally against the (diet) grain, doesn’t it? We’ve been brainwashed by the low-fat bandwagon for decades. We've been pressured into believing that it’s OK to count calories that include low-fat items AND give the green light to foods rich in sugars and carbs. They said it’s pretty much OK to eat anything—so long as it's low-fat and you stick to your daily allotted calorie count.
But that way of dieting is not working, is it?
The old way of dieting had us eating low-fat foods and tons of carbs - so long as you kept within your calorie limit. And this antiquated-way of dieting kept us fat.
Read this reminder, below, from Part 1 ...
On a Keto diet, we eat more fat for fuel and drastically cut the carbs.
Why?
This enables the body to quickly use the carbs we eat first and then the body has no choice but to burn the stored fat-reserves for fuel. The state of burning off the fat is called Ketogenesis.

The basis of the Keto diet is to eat as few carbs as possible. Why? This enables the stored fat to be burned off and used instead as the energy-source. When the small amount of carbs you’ve eaten are used up, your body has no choice but to “go for” the fat stored on your body. And it literally melts away.
I was steaming mad after I’d finished Gary’s book—not mad at Gary—but mad at the whole diet industry, misleading us with only eating low-fat foods. And I was sad at the way Gary’s doctor treated him regarding his diabetes.
Prior to starting a Keto diet, we likely chose low-fat foods AND carbs—lots of ‘em—such as bread, potatoes, beans, pasta, and rice. When we eat too many of these refined carbs—and don’t burn them off—those excess carbs get stored as fat. We need to reverse that by eating far far far fewer carbs so that the fat that’s stored on your body gets used up.
In the next post of this 3-part series, we talk about carbs: breads, muffins etc., and tackle the sweet-tooth issue and how it's NO LONGER an issue with these great ice cream solutions. See you over there!
